Inquiry into collision of vessels ordered
The Director of Marine, Mr Tsui Shung-yiu, has ordered a Local Marine Inquiry to investigate the circumstance attending the collision between a tanker and a fishing vessel at East Lamma Channel on Sunday (December 6) night, a Marine Department spokesman said today (Tuesday).

"In accordance with the powers granted under section 58 of the Shipping and Port Control Ordinance (Cap. 313), the Director of Marine appointed Mr Fan Wai-biu, Surveyor of Ships (Nautical), to be the Investigating Officer," the spokesman said.

The Panamanian tanker "Dignity" and the Mainland fishing vessel "Luk fung 28705" were involved in a collision at about 8.40 pm last Sunday, he said.

Six of the nine Mainland crewmen on board the fishing vessel which sank after the collision were missing and a search and rescue operation, coordinated by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, has been conducted but so far with nil result, he added.
