The Marine Department today (Wednesday) reminds
owners and operators of vessels using the Kap Shui Mun Bridge
waterways to observe the boom length restrictions which will become
effective next month.
Starting from June 1, vessels with crane/derrick boom length of
35 metres or more are prohibited from entering, navigating or
remaining in the height restricted area of the Kap Shui Mun Bridge
as specified in the Shipping and Port Control Regulations, a Marine
Department spokesman said.
To give effect to the above boom length restriction, a licensing
condition to prohibit vessels with boom length of 35 metres or
more from using the restricted area will be entered into the license
books of these vessels.
Owners, masters, coxswains and persons-in-charge of these vessels
are requested to immediately present their vessels' license books
for such endorsement at any Marine District Offices or Public
Cargo Working Areas Administration Offices which are convenient
for them.
Furthermore, a marking system to indicate the derrick boom of
a vessel which is 35 metres or more will be implemented.
"The derrick boom head of such a vessel is required to be
painted with a six metres size of alternate red and white strips
during the next renewal of its license," the spokesman said.
Marine Department Notice No. 68 of 1998 and its annex have been
issued on May 5 to announce details of the above arrangements
and outline requirements of the marking system.
