Search for four missing fishermen underway
The Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre (MRCC) of the Marine Department is conducting a search and rescue operation for four fishermen who are reported missing in the wake of a vessel collision in East Lamma Channel this (Friday) morning.

The collision involved a local fishing vessel with five fishermen on board and a Myanmar registered cargo ship, Magway, around 6.14 am in East Lamma Channel off Ap Lei Pai.

The fishing vessel sank after the collision and a fisherman was plucked by a police launch while four others have gone missing.

The MRCC has tasked a Marine Department launch, four police launches, three fireboats and a Government Flying Service helicopter to the scene for the search and rescue operation.

After the incident, the 9,990 gross registered tonne Magway is anchored in the Western Quarantine and Immigration Anchorage.
