Macau and HK |
 |
The acting Director of Marine, Mr S Y Tsui
this (Saturday) morning presented certificates to 12 officers
from China, Macau and Hong Kong who have recently completed a
two-week Maritime Search and Rescue (SAR) Training Course.
The course was organised by the Marine Department and is modelled
on the United States Coast Guard Search and Rescue System.
Of the recipients, two officers are from the Chinese Search and
Rescue Authority and another two from the Macau Marine Department.
The remaining are eight local participants from the Marine Police,
Fire Services Department and the Marine Department.
Speaking at the certificate presentation ceremony held at the
Marine Department Headquarters, Mr Tsui congratulated all participants
for their outstanding performances, noting that the training course
was aimed at enabling the trainees to carry out their search and
rescue duties in an efficient and effective manner.
"The training also fosters a better understanding among
the officers of various places which as a result develops a further
better co-ordination and co-operation," Mr Tsui said.
"As a result, we can have a better deployment of resources
on a regional level."
"And, through regular training courses run by the Marine
Department, Hong Kong maintains the necessary reserve of well
qualified SAR mission controllers," he added.
The acting Director further noted that the Hong Kong Maritime
Rescue Co-ordination Centre (MRCC) had performed an excellent
job in search and rescue operations which had earned praises and
recognition from both the International Maritime Organisation
and shipping companies.
Mr Tsui said, "The HK MRCC is responsible for the SAR operations
both in Hong Kong waters and the area of the South China Sea north
of latitude 10 degrees north and west of longitude 120 degrees
east, excluding the immediate coastal waters of neighbouring countries
or areas."
"The HK MRCC also has full communication capability to undertake
SAR missions for ships in difficulties within an area about 1
300 kilometres from Hong Kong as well as to tackle vessels emergencies
within Hong Kong waters," he continued.
The acting Director further wished all the recipients making
full use of the acquired knowledge in their professional activities
in future.
