Proposed revision in pilotage dues will be gazetted tomorrow
The Pilotage (Dues) (Amendment) Order 2005, which sets out a number of proposed revisions in the pilotage dues, will be gazetted tomorrow (June 30).

Pilotage dues are commercial fees charged by licensed pilots for the provision of pilotage services. The fee levels are periodically reviewed by the Hong Kong Liner Shipping Association (HKLSA) representing shipping lines and the Hong Kong Pilots Association (HKPA). The latest review has recommended increases in certain pilotage dues.

A Marine Department spokesman said that the increases in pilotage dues had been agreed between the HKPA as the service provider, and HKLSA as users of pilotage services. They had also been endorsed by the Pilotage Advisory Committee (PAC) and the Legislative Council’s Economic Services Panel.

"The Pilotage Ordinance (Cap. 84) empowers the Director of Marine, who is the Pilotage Authority, to set the amount of pilotage dues by order published in the Gazette after consultation with the PAC," the spokesman said.

The order will be tabled at the Legislative Council on July 6, 2005. The new fees are expected to take effect from mid-November 2005.
