A ship carrying 20,000 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas caught fire about 20 nautical miles east of Hong Kong waters early this (November 24) morning.
The Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre received a report at 1.48 am from the vessel carrying LPG that the engine room was on fire. A total of 34 persons on board were then rescued by passing ships and no one was injured or reported missing.
Two fireboats from the Fire Services Department were sent to the scene for assistance upon request from the Mainland authorities this morning. Two aircrafts from the Government Flying Services in Hong Kong also flew there at around midnight.
Firefighters from Hong Kong and the Mainland are still fighting the fire at the scene.
