The Marine Department has officially opened
a one-stop-shop service to process all ship registration related
applications at the third floor of the Harbour Building.
Instead of having to apply for their ship registration in the
Central's Harbour Building and application for a ship station
licence from the Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA)
in Wan Chai as in the past, shipowners are able to make all the
necessary applications at one point.
The office for the one-stop service is situated on the third
floor of the Harbour Building in Central.
Marine Department's Chief Assistant Registrar, Mr Chan Ming-yau,
said: "However, shipowners still have the option to apply
for their ship station licence directly from the OFTA instead
of going through the one-stop-shop."
The one-stop shop service was established in response to clients'
comments that they were inconvenienced when making applications
for trading certificates at various sections of the Marine Department
and other Government Department that were remote from the Shipping
Registry, Mr Chan said.
As the Shipping Registry and Seafarers Branch (SRSB) is the
major service provider in the Department for the HKSR shipowners,
all the offices under the SRSB Branch, namely the Shipping Registry,
the Mercantile Marine Office and the Seafarers' Certification
Section, have now been grouped together as one single office.
More details about the one-stop-shop service are available in
the eighth issue of Hong Kong Maritime News which is accessible
through Marine Department's website at http://www.gov.hk/mardep.
