Maritime Affairs exhibition begins tomorrow
A roving exhibition to promote the public understanding of maritime operations and affairs will be held at the two cross-boundary ferry terminals from tomorrow (Jan 22).
The exhibition, with the theme "Hong Kong Maritime Affairs", is part of the Marine Department's efforts to support the Serving the Community Festival held by the Civil Service Bureau this month to showcase the wide range of quality services the Government provides to the community.

A spokesman for the Marine Department said: "It is hoped that the public will get a better understanding of the various services the department is providing to the community after visiting the exhibition.

Elaborating on the exhibition details, the spokesman said that visitors would have a chance to learn more about the operations and functions of various divisions within the Marine Department through display panels, computer demonstrations and video show. "

Maritime topics covered in the exhibition include shipboard safety working code, the search and rescue system, safety in navigation, dangerous goods handling and other maritime services and matters.

One of the highlights is the demonstration of a ship steering simulator. Visitors will have a chance to take the helm of a vessel and experience for themselves the feeling of being a quartermaster.

The exhibition will be held on the 3rd Floor (East Bridge) of Shun Tak Centre, Central tomorrow (January 22) and on the 1st Floor of the China Hong Kong City (Departure Hall next to the Marine Department's Pass Office), Tsimshatsui on Wednesday (January 23).
