Exchange visits by marine officials in HK and Mainland
Exchange visits by officers of the Marine Department and the Maritime Safety Administration (MSA) of the Ministry of Communications, PRC, were conducted between October 29, 2001 and November 11, 2001 to promote mutual understanding of maritime business in both places.
This is a major story reported in the seventh issue of Hong Kong Maritime News just published by the Marine Department.

The exchange visits also aimed at enhancing close and efficient co-operation of frontline workers of both the Marine Department and the MSA in the future.

The Senior Surveyor of Ships, Mr. Cheng Yeung-ming, and the Senior Marine Officer, Mr. Fung Kwok-Ming visited the offices of MSA in Beijing, Tianjin and Shanghai.The Consultant of the MSA, Mr Zhang Jinwen and the Director of Ship Inspection Department of Shanghai MSA, Mr. Xiao Yaohua paid a reciprocal visit to the Marine Department in November.

During the stay of the MSA delegation in Hong Kong, the Director of Marine, Mr. Tsui Shung-yiu, the Deputy Director of Marine, Mr. Tsang Man-ching and the Assistant Director (Shipping), Mr. K.M.Varghese briefed the delegates on the general operations of the Marine Department in Hong Kong.

The MSA delegates also visited various divisions of the Marine Department to see for themselves their daily operations and various services provided to the maritime sector. They included the Port State Control Section, the Search and Rescue Section, the Cargo Ship Safety Section, the Harbour Patrol Section, the System Support Section, the Vessel Traffic Section and the Port Logistics Section.

Both MD and MSA delegates got a better understanding about the operations, working conditions and areas of difficulties of the counterparts in their destinations after the visits.
