HK MRCC operates 24 hours
a day with a Marine Officer, a Marine
Inspector and a GMDSS Operator on duty all the time.
All the Marine Officers in the
MRCC are qualified Master Mariners, and they have undergone intensive training in Search
and Rescue techniques.
The radio equipment established
within the MRCC for the shore based end of the Global Maritime Distress & Safety
System (GMDSS) is operated by a professional Officer who is seconded from Hongkong
Telecom. He is responsible to receive distress alerts generated from ships through various
radio channels.
