Post-secondary Summer Internship Programme
The 2008 Post-Secondary Student Summer Internship Programme has been launched. The Programme provides internship placement opportunities for students who are permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and enrolled in full-time accredited post-secondary programmes offered by post-secondary institutions. The following internship placement opportunities are now available for application in Marine Department:

Entry Requirements: |

‘Level 2’ (‘Grade E’ before 2007) in Chinese Language and English Language (English Language (Syllabus B) before 2007) in HKCEE;
Year 2 or above (Year 3 preferable) student of a local degree course in the current academic year studying Computer Science/Computer related subjects, or equivalent; and
Skills/Knowledge in IT. Programming knowledge in (a) Microsoft Access applications; (b) the use of Microsoft Office applications, e.g. Word and Excel etc. and (c) other programming skills e.g. VBA or Java, are desirable. |

To enhance other office application(s) of the branch; and
To take up office automation assignment where necessary. |

| Terms & Conditions of Appointment : |
Successful interns will be engaged on non-civil service contract terms for a period of not more than eight weeks. Except otherwise provided, the rest day, statutory holiday, general holidays, paid leave, sickness days and sickness allowance are generally in line with those provided for under the Employment Ordinance (Cap.57). |

| General Notes : |
(a) Non-civil service vacancies are not posts on the civil service establishment. Candidates appointed are not on civil service terms of appointment and conditions of service. Candidates appointed are not civil servants and will not be eligible for posting, promotion or transfer to any post in the civil service.
(b) Candidates appointed must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region unless specified otherwise.
(c) The terms of appointment and conditions of service to be offered are subject to the provisions prevailing at the time the offer of appointment is made.
(d) It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/she will be invited to attend the selection interview/written examination without being subject to any further shortlisting criteria.
(e) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications.

(b) The job title concerned should be clearly marked in the application form.
(c) All students studying in local post-secondary institutions should approach the Student Affairs Officers/Career Centres of their respective institutions for applications.
(d) An applicant of the 2008 Internship Programme can apply for one post only, those who apply for more than one post will be disqualified.
(e) An invitation for interview will be issued in about three weeks from the closing date for application. Those who have not received invitation during this period may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.
